1989 - 2000 The Hands II

This photograph
was taken by Carla van Thijn. It shows Michel Waisvisz in
1991 with the second version of The Hands.
This version was
built together with Bert Bongers.
The improvements
consisted of a single wooden frame as the main body for attaching the various
sensors, better components and a more reliable wiring-system.
Also the software
was rewritten completely using the new Spider-programming-system.
To increase the possibilities of using The Hands as a conductor instrument software was developed to manipulate strings of MIDI events: the Lick Machine.
In the second half of the 90ties The Hands were used together with specially designed sound manipulation software: LiSa.
More information about these softwares can be found at the steim.org site
